"This was a little while after the Collector Base. Right before I turned myself in. We went to Illium. I had booked a room at one of those apartment hotels for a few days.
"And we just… spent time together. Pretended we were just a couple living in a big city." And not the first human Spectre and a master assassin, trying to make a last ditch effort at normality before the inevitable shitstorm.
"So we did ‘normal’ stuff. Nothing really exciting. We watched vids together. I took him to a beach - well… we snuck into a private beach in the middle of the night, more like - he took me to a concert I had mentioned wanting to see. We took turns cooking for each other. …We ended up ordering in most of the time." Shepard shakes her head, grinning. "Sometimes I would play my guitar, or sing, and he would just listen. Or he’d tell me old folktales, and I would just listen.
"But I mostly remember us just… talking. About us. What we were going to do after everything was over, where we saw ourselves in a few years… if we could see each other starting a life together. You know… stuff every couple talks about when they get serious." She smiles, wistful and sad. "Wishful thinking."
